WHAT IS THE JUNIOR BASKETBALL ACADEMY?

The Junior Basketball Academy (JBA) was created by Richard Garard, a passionate youth basketball coach and health and fitness coach, and is designed to make a positive difference in the community by changing kids' lives through basketball.

At the Junior Basketball Academy (JBA), kids learn more than just skills and drills. Our focus is on helping each player succeed and grow both on and off the court, and is shaped in the belief that kids excel when they have fun.

JBA delivers the highest level of personalised coaching and mentoring through age appropriate drills and games, allowing kids to learn the correct technique and build their basketball foundation through solid fundamentals.

Our program also emphasises principles and values of leadership, nutrition, fitness and teamwork, ensuring a well-rounded educational and sporting experience.

We want your daughter or son to walk away from our camps feeling happy, confident and as passionate about basketball as we are!

WHAT HAPPY PARENTS & CAMPERS ARE SAYING?

This was a brilliantly run sports camp. The customer service shown by Richie and the JBA team was first class. He really cares about each child having a positive camp experience and I was impressed with the report card sent after camp detailing the skills achieved and suggestions for further improvement. The ration of coaches to kids was great and Myles, who had only really played basketball in the playground at school, really enjoyed his basketball camp experience.

Victoria Morrison

Since attending the camp, Sarah's confidence as a player has grown tremendously - her team is winning every week by a really big margin and she is scoring the vast majority of the points in the team! She is happy because she is with her friend Jessica (who was also at your camp) and they are combining very well during the games and shooting lots of hoops!

Mary Giles

James had never been to a basketball camp before but he ended up really enjoying the camp and loved being in the same group as his friends.

Therese Brossard

Making new friends was the best bit and now when I'm playing basketball at school I can do things I couldn't believe I couldn't do before. I get more shots in, I can dribble the ball through my legs and do other tricks. People want me on their team now, up front to score more points.

Myles Morrision (Age 11)

My daughter's favourite part of the camp was the final day where she was able to put together all the skills she had learnt during the course of the camp. The biggest improvement was in her confidence and ability as a player.

Andrew Ng

I was initially concerned that Indigo would feel uncomfortable and awkward as she didn't know anyone at the camp. But she was fine, everyone was really friendly and she loved it. The best part of her was the people. I would recommend this camp to anybody as you were very professional and organised. It was very well run and I felt Indigo was left in safe hands.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My child has never played basketball before. Will she be ok in attending this class?

Definitely! A lot of our players have never played basketball before and we provide a fun and supportive environment for them to learn the game and get plenty of practice and game time. We have a structured curriculum for each skill level and she will be placed on a team with other beginners to make sure she has the best possible experience.

My child is only 6 years old. How can he shoot on a regular height 10ft basketball ring?

We are different to other academies because we provide lower 8ft rings and smaller basketballs for our younger players so they can develop the correct shooting technique and confidence when practicing new skills.

My child is an advanced player for his age and he wants to be in a team that challenges him.

All players are placed in teams based primarily on their skill level and experience to make sure they are challenged and get the most from every second they're at our academy.

Who are the coaches?

Our academy feature some of Sydney's best coaches with representative, state and international experience. They all share a love for basketball and a passion for teaching the game to younger players. JBA carries current insurance and all coaches have a Working with Children Clearance (WWCC).

A WORD FROM THE FOUNDER AND HEADCOACH

Few words from Richie Garard, JBA Founder & Head Coach

I am quite simply a basketball fanatic. I live and breathe basketball and I wanted to give back to the game and make a positive difference in the community by sharing my passion for teaching and coaching kids.

At the Junior Basketball Academy (JBA) we teach more than just skills and drills.

I want your son or daughter to walk away from our camps feeling great and more confident about themselves from the new skills that they have learnt and hopefully fall in love with basketball like I did.

Aim high!
